ShipHero alternative for merchants who fulfill Shopify orders in-house

SKUSavvy is a mobile WMS for teams that pick their own Shopify orders. Phone on the floor. 3D map of the warehouse. Usage pricing, unlimited seats. If you need LVK (ShipHero’s fulfillment subsidiary) for outsourced pick/pack, stay there — that’s a different product.

In-house Shopify floor

You fulfill at least some of your own stock. Bins, put-away, pick path, scan gates when someone’s new. Not a PO-only app.

Bill / seats / mid-volume

ShipHero Brand Standard starts at $1,995/mo on get.shiphero.com. Mid-volume teams (~1k–2k orders/mo) often look past that price shape before features.

Dual WMS or hybrid 3PL

ShipHero for B2C + another system for wholesale — or retail floor + ShipHero-3PL. Shopify is the spine. No native ShipHero↔SKUSavvy sync.

The situation

You sell on Shopify. You fulfill at least some of your own stock — warehouse, back room, or warehouse plus retail. The catalog is past the point where a sheet plus a shipping app can keep bins honest.

Typical switch into this page:

  • You’re on ShipHero and the bill, the seats, or the desktop-heavy floor no longer match a team that just needs pick, pack, and put-away to move.

  • You’re not on a full WMS yet — ShipStation for labels, Stocky hangover (Stocky isn’t available for inventory work anymore), spreadsheet for locations.

  • You looked at SkuVault / Linnworks, Extensiv, Cin7, Veeqo, Fishbowl, Finale, PULPO, or Logiwa IO and got an ERP-shaped project.

  • You’re running two WMS stacks — ShipHero for B2C / DTC and a separate local system for wholesale — and the dual-system tax is the actual problem.

  • You’re mid-volume (~1k–2k orders/mo) and ShipHero’s price shape / seats knocked you out before a feature bake-off finished.

  • You’re hybrid: retail or warehouse on your floor, online fulfillment through a 3PL that runs ShipHero.

Bunker 27 is the public version of the shipping-app story: 12 retail stores plus a DC, left ShipStation after mis-ships and order-split pain. Amber Ridge replaced four tools in a week. Kantha Bae (still in onboarding when they wrote it) left a “BIG” WMS because a high unique-SKU catalog would not bend. Kabayare’s Shopify review describes ~20k unique SKUs across ~2,200 bins.

Not the job: no warehouse / nothing to pick. Expiry-heavy FEFO as the main reason to buy. A channel stack that does not live in Shopify. FBA-as-the-model. Hybrid dropship is fine when you still fulfill some stock on your own floor.

Hybrid retail + ShipHero-3PL honesty: SKUSavvy has no native ShipHero sync. If online orders leave through a 3PL on ShipHero and you still need a floor WMS for retail / wholesale / your own bins, Shopify is the spine — transfers, exports, or API connectors — not a one-click ShipHero↔SKUSavvy bridge.

Where ShipHero is the better fit

Say this first. Switching a live floor has a cost. Do not switch for a blog post.
  1. 01
Mid-market WMS depth that absorbs ~$2k+/mo

Deep automation rules, lot/expiration, Bulk Ship, Pack-to-Light, picker/packer reporting, demo-led onboarding. Brand Standard starts at $1,995/mo; 3PL plan at $2,145/mo on get.shiphero.com.

  2. 02
    You’re a 3PL needing client portals + billing

Dedicated ShipHero 3PL plan. SKUSavvy’s primary story is in-house Shopify floors. On demos we still hear operators who want stricter mandatory bin-scan / LPN controls — evaluate that in your own trial.

  3. 03
    Truly multi-channel outside Shopify

ShipHero help lists Amazon, Walmart, eBay, Magento, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, and more. SKUSavvy is Shopify-first; other marketplaces via Marketplace Connect. Not a many-cart WMS.

  4. 04
Native iOS pick apps / Pack-to-Light

ShipHero WMS Mobile on iPhone/iPad. Independent reviews (3PL Insider) call out iOS-centric picking; Android warehouses may need hardware swap.

  5. 05
    LVK adjacency for outsourced fulfillment

LVK is ShipHero’s fulfillment subsidiary (FreightWaves, Aug 2024). Runs on ShipHero WMS. Outsourced pick/pack is LVK’s product — not a “ShipHero network” invent on today’s software homepage. SKUSavvy does not replace LVK.

  6. 06
    Team already runs ShipHero well

Training and muscle memory matter more than a comparison table. Don’t switch for a feature request.

Where SKUSavvy wins

  • Full floor as a PWA — phone or tablet browser (app.skusavvy.com). No native iOS/Android store app. Camera or cheap Bluetooth scanner. Android and iOS, same product.

  • 3D digital twin — map the real layout; put-away, cycle counts, and picks share the same picture; pick path on that layout, not a printed column of bin names.

  • Shopify two-way sync — orders, products, inventory. Shopify = sales engine; SKUSavvy = warehouse.

  • Usage price, unlimited seats — $179/mo first ~250 orders, then about $0.20 → $0.06. Unlimited seats, SKUs, warehouses. Seasonal pickers don’t open a license negotiation.

  • Billable orders — outbound + inbound POs + transfers + POS when asked. Postage separate. Labels via ShipEngine in the pack flow.

  • Self-serve — 30-day trial, no credit card. Optional impl $2,750 + $250/mo. Tractor Beverage stood the floor up from YouTube.

  • SavvyBot — in-app “where is this / what do I tap” without inventing a ticket.

Comparison sites still file SKUSavvy as tiny-store only. Kabayare’s public Shopify review is ~20k unique SKUs / ~2,200 bins. Small review base on purpose — Shopify ~4.7 from a handful of reviews. Don’t imply a wall of logos.

What we hear on demos (anonymized)

Patterns from discovery calls — paraphrased, no prospect names. Prefer public Shopify reviews for attributed complaints.

Dual WMS tax. Some operators run ShipHero for B2C and a separate local WMS for wholesale / B2B. Two systems, two inventory truths, two training tracks. They’re looking for one visual floor instead of keeping both forever. Related ask: mandatory bin-scan / LPN-style controls some 3PL workflows want.

Mid-volume price shape. Teams around ~1k–2k Shopify orders/mo often look past ShipHero because of the ~$2k/mo software floor and seat growth — before they finish a feature bake-off. Usage pricing + unlimited seats is why they open a trial, not a claim that ShipHero is bad software.

Hybrid 3PL stacks. Retail or in-house bins on one side; a ShipHero-powered 3PL on the other. Shopify stays the spine. We do not claim native ShipHero sync — plan connectors or transfer patterns if you need both.

Feature and pricing comparison

Published ShipHero “starts at” from get.shiphero.com. Seat add-ons are commonly reported by independent reviews — confirm in demo. No invented “% cheaper.”

Pricing honesty

Do not invent a “30–50% cheaper” line. Model your volume. At low–mid order counts with many seasonal seats, usage + unlimited seats often wins on paper. At high volume that wants flat unlimited-order SaaS and iOS Pack-to-Light, ShipHero’s shape can win. Extra seats (~$150) and store-connection add-ons circulate in WarehousingCosts / Eightx / Ekyon — label as commonly reported; confirm in ShipHero’s demo.

SKUSavvy public list: $179/mo first ~250 orders, then ~$0.20→$0.06; unlimited seats; 30-day trial no CC; optional impl $2,750+$250/mo; postage separate. Billable = outbound + inbound POs + transfers + POS when asked.

Problems people report (themes, attributed)

Public reviews and independent writeups — not invented quotes. ShipHero also has strong positive reviews. Read both sides.
  1. 01
    Pricing / seats / clarity

Brand Standard at $1,995/mo is a real floor. Yoseka Stationery (Shopify App Store, Jan 7, 2025): contact was challenging, pricing felt unclear, sales-call tone came across as condescending. Per-user add-ons commonly reported ~$150/user/mo — confirm in demo.

  2. 02
    Support at peak

Ecommerce Times (2026) and Online Store News / Trustpilot-indexed threads describe multi-day waits as a recurring negative theme for some operators. Not every ticket — but buyers ask.

  3. 03
Complexity / onboarding / quote creep

Multi-week stand-ups cited in independent writeups. Ecommerce Times reported operators seeing first-year cost land higher than initial quote when custom work was scoped separately — operator-reported, not a ShipHero published figure.

  4. 04
    Sync / cancel-refund / multi-location

Just Tall (Shopify review, edited Sep 1, 2025): unwanted non-USA order sync, cancels/refunds into Shopify from 3PL staff, location adjustments affecting inventory across locations. papercrush (Jul 27, 2026): dozens of orders cancelled after a 3PL staff mistake.

  5. 05
    Mobile / Android gap

3PL Insider: iOS-only picking app as a con. App Store ratings for ShipHero WMS Mobile have lagged Shopify/G2 aggregates in research snapshots.

  6. 06
    Reporting gaps

3PL Insider: reporting/dashboards a recurring complaint vs the rest of the platform. Deeper labor/slotting analysis often moves to external BI.

  7. 07
    LVK / brand confusion

After Aug 2024 split, “ShipHero fulfillment” searches can mix software with fulfillment-era reviews (3PL Insider warning). Keep LVK and ShipHero WMS separate when you shop.

  8. 08
    Rate shopping / channel parity

Trustpilot-indexed Feb 2026 theme: rates not matching carrier quotes — verify in your own tests. Online Store News: BigCommerce/Woo lag Shopify parity.

Positive counterweight

Frost Buddy and other Shopify reviewers praise precision and scale and explicitly accept that ShipHero isn’t the cheapest option. If that is your bar and the bill fits, stay.

Migration overlap

Keep ShipHero live while Shopify stays the spine. We support migration from ShipHero, Skubana, ShipStation, and spreadsheets (SKUSavvy FAQ).
  1. 01
    1. Connect Shopify

SKUSavvy listens to Shopify events so you can keep ShipHero live while you build the new floor.

  2. 02
    2. Export from ShipHero

Inventory, bins, barcodes, replenishment levels, history via UI / API / CSV where available.

  3. 03
    3. Rebuild the map

Bin locations get rebuilt in the visual warehouse editor — most source systems do not hand over a portable layout.

  4. 04
    4. Resync during overlap

Resync inventory from Shopify so the two systems do not drift. Move labels when shipping is connected. Cut over pick/pack when scans feel solid.

  5. 05
    Hybrid 3PL note

No native ShipHero sync. Leaving LVK fulfillment is a different motion (inventory transfer, SLA wind-down) — don’t conflate with WMS cutover. Review ShipHero TOS before assuming easy cancel. Optional impl $2,750 + $250/mo.

Soft proof

Amber Ridge — Ben W. Looked at 10+ systems; live in a week; replaced four tools.

Bunker 27 — Darren M. 12 retail + warehouse; Shopify split/routing beat ShipStation; scan-to-pick cut mis-ships.

Kantha Bae — Cory N. High OOAK / unique SKUs; left a “BIG” WMS — still in onboarding when written.

Kabayare (Shopify review) — ~2,200 bins, 20k+ unique SKUs. Short app tenure at post time — don’t overplay years live.

Tractor Beverage — Austin P. ~1 year; YouTube stand-up when the layout felt daunting.

Small review base on purpose. Full quotes on /testimonials. No store headcount. No Built for Shopify badge. No invented ROI.

If ShipHero (or the ShipStation pile) is the wrong shape for your floor

Try SKUSavvy for 30 days. No credit card. If you need LVK, multi-cart native connectors, or flat ~$2k/mo WMS with iOS Pack-to-Light — stay on ShipHero.
